Last week we told you about changes to our open-enrollment course offerings under the Comptrollership Training Centre, our in-house training institute. Today we’re happy to be in a position to announce the changes to this year’s Joint Career Development Program (JCDP).

While we are disappointed to have to cancel or change some of our most popular events in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited by the opportunity to find new ways to serve our members and give you access to valuable training and development.

To that end, here are the changes we’re making for 2020-21.

Spring Tune Up is moving online

Our flagship event, the annual Spring Tune Up, was already moved from June to October in the hopes of being able to bring our community together in person. However, our venue has cancelled all events through the end of 2020 and given the ongoing restrictions on gatherings and the fact that a vaccine still has not been developed, we’ve made the decision to move Spring Tune Up online.

The new event will consist of two half-day sessions held October 27-28 (7.0 CPD hours). The event is still free for all ACFO-ACAF members and we’re in the process of confirming our original speakers. We’re also looking for ways to ensure we can still provide a career fair experience this year as well.

We’re offering more classroom-style courses in place of larger events

In light of the restrictions in place due to COVID-19 we’ve shifted the focus of the JCDP to classroom courses that can be offered online or in person with appropriate physical distancing measures in place. While this means we have had to suspend our popular interchange program and Regional Tune Up event series for this year, it also means we can offer a larger array of courses, including new two-day intensive courses from our friends at uOttawa’s Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy, licenses for online learning platforms like LinkedIn Learning and new language training opportunities.

Please note: If you already applied to the JCDP this year, unfortunately you’ll need to reapply given the number of new offerings that have been added.
