My fellow FIs,
Another successful Spring Tune Up event has come and gone and I’m once again reminded of the incredible sense of duty and professionalism that the FI Community brings to the workplace day in and day out.
Those in attendance and those watching online may have heard none other than the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien remind us all that public service truly is a noble calling. I’ll admit, with the Phoenix pay system debacle affecting so many of us it can be easy to lose sight of high-minded ideals like the nobility of public service. But I can tell you, every time I talk to an FI I’m struck by just how committed our community is to that very ideal.
It’s been a tough year for the public service, there’s no doubt. But with National Public Service Week taking place from June 11-17, the time is right to step back and reflect on the important work we do. Throughout the Phoenix crisis, I’ve heard anger, frustration and despair from those affected, of course, but I’ve never heard anyone waver in their commitment to serving Canadians. It’s a level of commitment that is worthy of celebration.
One of the hallmarks of the FI Community is the strong relationships FIs have with colleagues in the community, from other groups and even from the management ranks. It’s what lets us serve Canadians as effectively and efficiently as we do. NPSW is a great opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the importance of your work.
Enjoy your week.
