A private member’s bill that would place unreasonable and discriminatory financial reporting requirements on labour organizations such as ACFO has once again been sent to the committee stage in the Canadian Senate.
The bill first appeared in the Senate two years ago, when a number of common sense amendments were proposed by the now-retired Senator Hugh Segal. These amendments were lost, however, when Parliament was prorogued. The bill is back in the Senate without these amendments and has reached the committee stage.
ACFO, along with many other groups, has grave concerns about this legislation; concerns that were outlined in a written submission to the Senate committee investigating the bill.
