WFA Status Update – January 2013

­­Since ACFO’s last update on Workforce Adjustments (WFA), two-thirds of WFA processes involving the FI Community have now been completed. This is good news in that these affected FIs now have at least some certainty as to whether they will be retained, provided with surplus options, or given a Guarantee of a Reasonable Job Offer (GRJO).

To date, 85% of the 374 FIs who are no longer affected will continue to be employed within the Public Service. Of the less than 1.5% of ACFO’s membership who severed from the public service through WFA, the vast majority have left voluntarily; either through retirement or choosing the Transitional Support Measure (TSM).

The following chart indicates the current status of Association members’ WFA processes, broken down by level and outcome.

Overall, the FI Community is faring relatively well. ACFO does not anticipate large-scale cuts to the FI group moving forward, as the federal government is aware that current capacity needs to be increased in order to meet its financial reporting requirements.

That said, the Association recognizes the strain WFA puts on the livelihoods of the individuals who have been impacted.ACFO is committed to providing support to all members impacted by WFA, whether they are directly affected or they are left to deal with the stress, anxiety, and changing responsibilities that WFA has created.

ACFO continues to provide numerous resources including a wealth of information online, conference calls, and information sessions for affected members.ACFO is also consulting with the Employer at the national and Departmental levels, and engaging in political and media advocacy reiterating the need to maintain financial capacity within the federal Public Service.
