ACFO is pleased to kick off the ACFO Regional Tune Up series in beautiful Moncton, New Brunswick, with a special event for the Atlantic Canada FI Community on Wednesday, September 20 at the Crowne Plaza Moncton Downtown (1005 Main Street). This free full-day event (8:15 am – 4:00 pm) will feature a complimentary breakfast and lunch, as well as inspiring and educational presentations centring around themes of leadership, work-life balance and continuing development.

Speakers
Dany Richard, MBA, CPA, CMA is the President of the Association of Canadian Financial Officers (ACFO). Mr. Richard is an outspoken advocate for the public service financial management community and a respected leader among his fellow Financial Officers. He joined the federal public service nearly a decade ago, was first elected to the ACFO Board of Directors in 2011 as Executive Vice-President and was elected President in 2016.
Pierre Battah, MBA, CMC, CPHR is an award-winning leadership and workplace specialist. His clients achieve better outcomes through his work in speaking, training and his advisory practice. He is a long-time workplace columnist, blogger, nationally syndicated broadcaster for CBC as well as a recent TEDx presenter. He was recently recognized as the HR Professional of the year by his peers at the Human Resources Association of New Brunswick and has occupied senior management roles with some of Canada’s leading employers. He is fluently bilingual, a committed community volunteer and a working jazz musician.
Alexandre (Sasha) Slechta, CPA, CA joined the public service in the Finance Branch of PSPC in 2011. He held various roles in Financial Systems and Resource Management. In 2015, he joined the Office of the Comptroller General at TBS. He was involved in the development and launch of the Financial Management Policy Suite as part of Policy Reset. He recently took on the role of Acting Director, Financial Management Community Development. Prior to joining the public service, he held various roles in the private sector.
Andrew Francis, MBA, CPA, CMA is the Chief Financial Officer at Canadian Heritage, a dynamic job which includes being a lead on one of the SAP clusters at the forefront of grant and contribution service delivery. He has held Director General level jobs in resource management at Indigenous and Northern Affairs and later corporate accounting in the DCFO position. His career has spread across other departments including Natural Resources, Agriculture and Treasury Board Secretariat.
Denise Frenette, CPA, CA joined the public service in 1988, working with the Office of the Auditor General in Ottawa. She moved home to New Brunswick in 1992 and worked for a private sector insurance company then returned to the public service in 1998 as a program delivery officer in ACOA’s New Brunswick regional office. She has held a variety of positions with the Agency since then, including Director General, Finance and Administration in 2006 and Vice-President, Finance and Corporate Services since August 2009. She is also the Agency’s Champion for Blueprint 2020, Value and Ethics and Employment Equity/Diversity.
Heather Langley, CPA, CMA is an FI-03 at the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency born and raised in Halifax. She joined the federal government in 2006 as an Auditor with Audit Services Canada then became a Manager in Finance with PSPC in 2012. In April 2017, she began with ACOA as their Manager for Finance. She is a Board Member of Wee Care Developmental Centre, an inclusive daycare, a Volunteer Coach with Active Start program for Special Olympics and the mother of two young daughters.
Susan Stewart is a comedian, author and professional speaker who has spent the last ten years entertaining and inspiring people to see the lighter side of life and harness the powers of a positive mindset. Susan is the author of Reaching The Laugh Resort, Your New Lenses Are Ready For Pick Up: A Guide To Seeing The Lighter Side Of Life and You Gotta Laugh: Wit And Wisdom About Not Taking Life (Or Yourself) Too Seriously.
Accommodations
To enable participation from members of the FI Community across the Atlantic Region, accommodations for one night will be reimbursed for ACFO members travelling from outside of the Moncton Region. Costs related to travel or incidentals (i.e. food) will not be reimbursed.
The Atlantic Tune Up is being brought to the Atlantic Canada FI Community by the ACFO-OCG Joint Training Fund.
