As a socially-conscious labour organization, ACFO is committed to improving living conditions not just for our membership, but society at large. With an aim to help those less fortunate than ourselves this holiday season, ACFO has made contributions on behalf of the FI Community to select charitable organizations in communities where FIs live and work.
Salvation Army Hope in the City Breakfast
For the second consecutive year, ACFO sponsored the Salvation Army Ottawa’s Hope in the City Breakfast on November 22nd, 2012. This event serves as the kick-off to the Salvation Army’s high-profile kettle campaign. ACFO’s sponsorship helps raise funds to support the Salvation Army’s critical programs and services across Canada and the world.
Almost 20% of Canadians will have a diagnosable mental health problem during the year, and mental illness now accounts for almost half of all public service disability claims. ACFO therefore chose to donate to the Centre Bienvenue this year, a community based, non-profit organization which provides support and services to adults who are coping with mental health issues in the greater Montreal area.
The Association also provided a charitable donation to Nelson House of Ottawa Carleton, an organization which provides emergency shelter and social services for women and children who are being abused.
Apart from monetary donations, the Association also gave the gift of time this year. ACFO staff volunteered the morning of Nov. 21, 2012 to help distribute snowsuits for the Snowsuit Fund, an Ottawa-based charity that has been purchasing and distributing snowsuits to underprivileged children for over 30 years.
