ACFO sent the following letter to George Cope, President and CEO of Bell Canada seeking the company’s position in regards to recent media reports alleging that Bell’s unpaid internship program is unfairly exploitative and possibly illegal.
The Association expects our business partners to be good corporate citizens and contribute to Canadian society’s standard of living. ACFO will continue to assess its business relationships to steer contracts toward suppliers that engage in fair labour practices.
In the global race to the bottom for cheap labour, we can no longer be content just to look out for our own interests. As we push for fair wages and benefits for the FI Community, our opponents point to the depressed wages and eroding benefits in the private sector as a rationale to reduce your compensation.
Together, we are taking a higher road in solidarity with working families in Canada and around the world.
