House finance committee endorses ACFO recommendation on departmental reviews
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance has endorsed ACFO’s recommendation that public servants, not outside consultants, should carry out the departmental spending reviews announced in the 2017 federal budget.
The endorsement came as part of the committee’s report on its pre-budget consultations. ACFO appeared before the committee in September. The committee’s recommendation number 77 was taken directly from ACFO’s submission. The report also cited ACFO’s recommendation that the government rely on its own expertise to improve financial reporting standards.
In addition to these ACFO-driven recommendations, the committee also called on the government to move forward on new pay equity legislation. This process has been ongoing since a special committee was struck in early 2016 to study the issue. ACFO was also engaged in that process and had several recommendations adopted by that committee, including a call for an alternative dispute resolution process for resolving pay equity complaints.
