As part of the ACFO-OCG Joint Career Development Program (JCDP), 20 FIs have successfully completed a unique and much sought-after uOttawa course, IFSD 360: Leadership & Strategic Thinking on Public Financial Management, offered by the Institute of Fiscal Studies and Democracy (IFSD).

During this course that run from November 27 to December 1, participants got an insider’s guide to the key facets of the financial cycle such as economic and fiscal forecasting, budgets, estimates and public accounts.

Participants also got a chance to hear from guest speakers with inside knowledge of government financial management processes. Speakers including the Deputy Parliamentary Budget Officer, political strategists and members of parliament offered their insights on the intersection between a financial cycle and politics and institutions.

Led by Kevin Page, former Parliamentary Budget Officer and his team of experienced economists, the IFSD 360 course consisted of interactive and real-life examples similar to situations FIs face on a daily basis.

Participants appreciated the five-day course created exclusively for FIs and look forward to using what they learned to improve their work.

“This course was probably the most relevant and useful course I have taken yet in my career with the Government of Canada. I really appreciated that they were teaching from a practical standpoint as opposed to just all theoretical talk,” Connie Fung, FI-03 at DND said.

The just-completed IFSD 360 course is the first cohort of the JCDP. Participants were randomly selected among 400 applicants.
