UITOC submission to UN Tax Committee calls for increased accountability and transparency
Recently the Unión Internacional de Trabajadores de Organismos de Control (UITOC), an international organization of financial control officers of which ACFO is a member, joined several international partners in making a submission to the Secretariat and Members of the UN Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters. This submission calls on the Committee to consider a series of recommendations aimed increasing accountability and transparency and reducing corruption and tax evasion and avoidance.
ACFO’s partnerships and our advocacy efforts, including a previous presentation to the UN, have positioned us to speak to these important issues with authority on the world stage. As many of our members know, ACFO President Milt Isaacs and Director of Labour Relations Scott Chamberlain are founding board members of UITOC. Scott Chamberlain also holds a position on the board of directors of Canadians for Tax Fairness, another signatory to the submission.
We see tax justice advocacy as a responsibility to our members and to the Canadian public you serve, but we know these efforts cannot be contained to our national borders. International standards and accountability, as well as a sharing of information, are essential and this submission is the latest step in an ongoing global push toward true tax fairness.
